Terrific Teeth!

Class 3 had a visit from Mrs Webster yesterday, who is from the Norwich Community Hospital. She taught us how to look after our teeth in the fight against bacteria, acid attack and decay!

We had lots of questions about sugar in our food and what to avoid drinking. Water is the best thing to drink because it contains no sugar or acid. Try to check the labels of your food and drink to find out the sugar content!

If you are going to have sugar in a drink or as a treat in food, when is the best time for it?

We learnt about how to brush our teeth correctly and when the best times to brush our teeth are.

We have been given a pack to take home that has a new toothbrush and sample toothpaste to try out.

Trip to Bressingham Church

This afternoon we walked down School Road to the church in Bressingham. Canon Tony Billet and two wardens welcomed us to the church and answered any questions that we had. The children had a look around the churchyard and once inside investigated and drew features of the church that they found interesting.

Canon Tony explained how the design of the pulpit helped to increase the sound of his voice so that his congregation could hear him more clearly.

A lot of the children were interested in the lectern, which was in the shape of an eagle. This is where readings are placed during the church services.

There are some beautiful stained glass windows in the church.

There were also some lovely kneeling pads made from hand embroidered tapestry. One had a picture of our school on it!

This wooden panel had the coat of arms of King Charles II on it.

Here is the font where children (and adults) are baptised.

The ends of the pews were carved - some were very ornate.

There were some beautiful plaques and memorials.

This organ produces music when a handle is turned at the back!

What an interesting trip - it's just a shame we couldn't spend any longer looking around!

Handwriting Practise

We practised our handwriting using 'The Bee Keeper' as an example.

Mrs Andrew explained that everyone needs to be joining their handwriting by Christmas.

The children worked really hard and there were some lovely examples ....

... and some beautiful illustrations as well!

School Council

This morning we had feedback from our School Council representatives about the meeting that they went to last week. Mr King wants to replace the train and the old allotments that are on the edge of the playing field. There was a class discussion about alternatives.

There were lots of ideas, some of which could be a little bit dangerous - a bouncy castle or swings for instance. The class decided that the following ideas should be put forward to Mr King at the next meeting: a maze, a wobbly bridge, a tunnel, monkey bars, a trampoline, a train and an art area.

Thank you to our School Council reps!

School Council Elections

This morning we heard from the candidates for School Council.

There were lots of people who put themselves forward - here are a few!

Candidates explained why they would make good Council members and the class voted for their favourites. Once all the votes were counted Mrs Andrew announced that Robyn and Daniel had been elected! Well done!

First day of the new term

After assembly we learned about some of the daily rules and tasks in Class 3.

We heard about Star of the Week, golden time and did daily spellings, then thought about the importance of school/class golden rules:

  • We are gentle.
  • We are kind and helpful.
  • We listen.
  • We are honest.
  • We work hard.
  • We look after property.

We decorated name tags for our pegs and then Mrs Andrew explained about School Council and everyone thought about whether they wanted to write their own manifesto and put themselves forward for election. Elections will be held tomorrow morning so you can work on your manifesto tonight if you want to make it extra persuasive!

Mrs Key will be teaching in Class 3 on Monday and Tuesday, and Mrs Andrew will be teaching on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

We looked at the new Home School Diaries and went through the Class 3 timetable. Mrs Andrew explained what all the lessons were. There will be sport with Norwich City Football Club!
We will be looking at Christianity and philosophy this term. Library day will be on Tuesday. We will be studying digestion in Science with Mrs Key.

Our topic this term will be the Stone Age and we will be reading 'Stig of the Dump'.

Tomorrow we will be doing PE so you will need to bring in trainers and your PE kit. Please try and remember to bring in bits and pieces for Mrs Key on Monday (as explained in the note in Home School Diaries) and please make sure any socks you bring in are clean!

The Home School Diary this year has a space for parents to sign to say you have read at home. Children who have read every day will be entered into Mr King's prize draw on Friday in assembly. The notes box at the bottom of the page is for parents to write a message to the Class teacher if they wish to. Parents should sign the page at the end of every week.

A letter about clubs will be sent out next week.

We finished off by making birthday cards for the following year.

Phew! A lot to take in and that was just the morning!
