Thursday April 24th 2014: The Wind in the Willows

This term we will be looking at 'all things watery', and our literary focus will be on 'The Wind in the Willows' by Kenneth Grahame.

Yesterday we looked at the setting of the book and drew our own maps of the landscape based on the map in the front of the illustrated version.

Today, after some revision on angles in our numeracy session, we heard Chapter One of 'The Wind in the Willows' read by Bernard Cribbins and drew pictures of what happened.

Afterwards we read through some of the text in two versions of the book and picked out words and phrases that described mole and the river.

The start of the Summer Term: Wednesday April 23rd 2014

Welcome back to school! Today was St George's Day so the children heard the story of St George and the dragon in assembly and also in class with Mrs Baker. They wrote their versions and Mrs Baker chose two to go on display.

Class 3 displays during Spring Term

Class 3 have completed some brilliant work this term - here are some of the displays that have been up in class and elsewhere.

 Our projects this term.

Our first literacy focus was 'Around the World in Eighty Days' by Jules Verne and we drew scenes from the book. There were plenty of different modes of transport to choose from.

Our second book was 'Kensuke's Kingdom' by Michael Morpurgo.
The children thought of questions about the book and we answered them once we had finished reading it.

The children drew maps of the island in the book.

We have also been looking at rocks and studied volcanoes...

...and we created pictures of swimmers in the style of Dale Devereux Barker.

The children also designed pop up cards as part of design technology.

Culture week, Friday April 4th 2014: Easter crafts

Today in assembly the whole school shared what they had been doing during culture week and FABs gave out the prizes for the Easter egg competition. Then we returned to our classroom and had our spelling and times tables tests. Afterwards we finished off work that needed completing and made Easter cards and tags with the help of Mrs Gilbert.

Happy Easter everyone, see you back in school on Wednesday April 23rd!

Culture Week, Thursday April 3rd 2014: Sainsbury Centre and Cats at The Theatre Royal, Norwich.

Everyone in Key Stage 2 went to Norwich today for more cultural enrichment. In the morning we went to The Sainsbury Centre at The University of East Anglia and were shown around the gallery. As we had been studying the world and exploration we looked at art works from other cultures and afterwards we had the opportunity to study our favourite pieces in more detail and make some sketches.

In the afternoon we went to see Cats at The Theatre Royal which was great - and we all particularly enjoyed seeing Macavity the mystery cat!
